When launching it for the first time, the program will ask the user to enter his 4shared account details. If he hasn't got an account, he can create one for free using the program, without needing to browse to the 4shared website. After creating the account, one will have a total available space of 15 GB, where he can upload any kind of file and folder.

All the uploaded files will be immediately synchronized with the online account. Besides that, the user can upload multiple files at the same time. Every file can have its download code displayed, allowing the user to share the file just by distributing the code.

Besides uploading and downloading files, 4shared Desktop also allows automatically synchronizing an offline folder with the online account, which is very useful for keeping backups of all your important files and folders. All this data can be protected with a password, making it inaccessible to unauthorized users. While files are being uploaded online, the program will clearly display the amount of free space remaining.

Using the options section of 4shared Desktop, the user can configure the program to start together with Windows and to automatically log in at startup, without requiring him to enter the username and password. Besides that, the user can set the time interval for automatically synchronizing offline files with the online account.
